The Department, established in 1971, stands as a cornerstone of TNMC & BYL Nair Charitable Hospital's academic and healthcare mission. Guided by visionary leaders, the department has evolved into a vibrant center for teaching, research, and diagnostics. It caters to multiple health science programs including MBBS, BDS, BPTh, BOTh, BPMT, and DMLT, and is recognized as a Ph.D. research center under MUHS, Nashik.

With an advanced laboratory performing over 2,500 biochemical tests daily across 50 parameters, it plays a crucial role in patient care. The department's active role during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplified its responsiveness and collaboration in critical times. Today, under the leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Bina Dias, the department continues to nurture curiosity, foster innovation, and strengthen the bridge between molecular science and clinical medicine.
